The Danger of Should’s and Shouldn’ts
Are you a Should-er and a Shouldn’t-er? Do you know people in your life who are?
This kind of dialogue sounds like:
- “I should have known better”
- “I shouldn’t have eaten that”
- “I should have done better”
- “I shouldn’t have said that”
And then after you speak the should-speak, you feel confused, worried, doubt, stupid, incompetent, and perhaps like a failure.
Get the point?
When we “should” or “shouldn’t” ourselves, or when another “should’s” or “shouldn’ts” us, we often question our integrity, we second guess what we said or did, and we become a bit unsure of what we did wrong. We actually, for as long as we indulge in the negative emotion, give up our power and forget who we are.
Have you heard the saying “Should is COULD with shame”?
Oh yeah, friends, SHAME is another awesome emotion. NOT!!
To treat ourselves with disrespect and to talk to ourselves in an unkind way, gets us nowhere fast and stops momentum and progress in its tracks.
When you become aware of your thoughts, your words, and your emotions, you become clear on (and hopefully choose) how to shift to a more loving, grace-filled, and kind dialog with yourself.
This is a MUST if you want to get to your goals and the results you so desperately want. You MUST treat yourself as the human being you wish to become.
